Bellevue City Council Position 5 Debate: Betsi Hummer vs Janice Zahn
Extemporaneous Debate is a popular high-school debate event that involves limited prep time over relevant political, economic, and ethical topics. With thousands of competitors at Nationals, this style emphasizes engaging and concise fact-based argumentation.
Modeled after Extemp Debate, candidates present and defend their campaign priorities in a constructive and fact-based approach. Both had two minutes to present their arguments, two minutes to refute their opponent’s arguments and defend their own, and 1 minute to deliver closing statements.
Following the 2-2-1 format, candidates debated three prepared prompts about housing, transportation, and safety. Following the debate, Betsi and Janice answered questions posed by local high-school students about current issues that are important to youth. Thank you for watching and remember to vote!
